Sacha Puukko Large Knife

Availability: In stock

Handcrafted by BOSS Head Instructor Jeremy Thomas, The SACHA large puukko is the second iteration of the original Wilderness Living Tool. The puukko is a full size knife capable of every camp chore. The blade is just over .5″ longer than the standard size puukko, and the handle is proportionally longer as well.

O1 Tool Steel is a low alloy American carbon steel. It has a proven reputation for edge holding and ease of sharpening. Desert Ironwood (Olneya tesota) is a tree that grows in the Sonoran Desert of Northern Mexico and Southern Arizona. It is extremely dense and stable. When polished to an almost glass-like finish, it is unparalleled in durability and beauty.

The full tang construction means the blade extends throughout the handle. This is the strongest way to construct a knife. The handle is held together by two stainless steel corby bolts and top quality American epoxy. The handle features a countersunk lanyard hole. A handmade 6oz vegetable tanned leather sheath is included.

Carbon steel oxidizes when exposed to moisture, acids or bases. This is easily removed with fine steel wool or a Scotch-Brite pad. Keeping a light layer of food-safe oil on the blade will protect it, although some oxidation will protect the blade in the form of a patina. The natural oils of your hands will keep the handle shiny and pretty. Each knife comes with a small tub of of Skidmore’s Beeswax Waterproofing. Apply it to the leather and use the sun or a blow-dryer on LOW heat to really melt it in to the leather and your sheath will stay waterproofed and conditioned.
